The latest update for the Motorola Droid 3 might be a huge one, version number 5.7.905.XT862 clocks in at around 230MB, which is huge for an update. However, it’s not Android 4.0, but instead just an update for Gingerbread. This huge update brings a bug fix for pretty much anything imaginable that might be a problem on the Droid 3. Here’s the full change log:

Device Features

A Google Security Patch has been added to improve the security level.

Fixed issue where the device may power ON without user interaction.

Avoid device interruption when accessing an application prior to the storage being fully mounted on the device.

Improvements in device stability help avoid device power cycles.

When connected to a Bluetooth® headset or HDMI cable, the device will no longer lock up and power cycle.

Improvements to the camera’s auto focus will reduce the shutter response time and enhance the quality of captured imagery.

Device is enabled with the Wireless Alerting System.

Call Features

Use a wired headset without the interruption of a high pitched tone.

Plus code dialing has been enhanced, improving the experience while traveling.

Applications & Widgets

Playback media can be heard while using a Bluetooth headset.

Place a call to the appropriate recipient using the contact widget.

When moving applications to the SD card, shortcuts to these Apps will remain.

After updating the contact database from the Messaging App, the Messaging UI will display the latest contact information.

Successfully post and play videos on Facebook.

Purchased ringtones are now able to be downloaded, saved and used where appropriate.

Contact pictures display properly in Google Voice.

VZ Navigator® 3D City is now preloaded.

Resolved excessive data usage and continuous downloading for VZ Navigator 3D City downloads.

It might seem hard to believe, but yes there are actually people out there that own the Motorola CLIQ 2. Even harder to believe is that they’ve been living with Android 2.1 Eclair since the phone was released in early 2011. Now, more than a year later, Motorola has finally gotten around to releasing an optional update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

This upgrade will not be pushed out over-the-air, instead it’s offered as an option download with the Motorola Software Update tool for Windows computers. This update that seemed like an afterthought where someone at Motorola suddenly remembered the CLIQ 2 existed and was still running really old Android.

And sadly, since it took this long, it seems like this is the end of the line for the CLIQ 2, as it’s highly doubtful it will ever see Ice Cream Sandwich outside of the third party ROM development community.
The latest Ice Cream Sandwich builds for the Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX have been leaked out. Build number 6.14.84 is the version number, and it’s most likely not a final release, just another incremental testing version. A few bugs still remain and we’re expecting more changes before Verizon approves a final build.

According to the leaked screenshots of Verizon’s software release schedule, the RAZR and MAXX are in firmware testing till May 17th, with the final upgrade due on May 21st. But if you don’t think you can wait that long, hit up the source link for downloads and instructions for updating the the latest available build.

UPDATE: The download links have been pulled since many users are reporting they are not able to flash back to the previous stable firmware.

Motorola has just announced the RAZR MAXX is coming to the UK soon. The Moto RAZR has been available for a while, and now power-hungry users will be able to get their hands on the version with the massive 3,300mAh battery. It’s priced at £430 SIM-free and is available for pre-order now from several places.

Clove and Expansys already have their pre-order pages up, the MAXX will also be available from Amazon.co.uk and other authorized Motorola phone resellers. No specific date was given, but orders are expected to ship in mid-May, only a couple weeks away.

Release dates for other European countries have not been announced yet, but we can only assume the device will eventually be available to other areas.

Press Release:

Motorola Mobility Brings RAZR™ MAXX to the UK

Up the ante with Motorola RAZR MAXX – giving you the longest talk time of any smartphone1

April 26, 2012

BASINGSTOKE, UK – April 26, 2012 – When it comes to buying a new smartphone, pocket appeal and a long battery life are two of the top priorities according to a recent report from Strategy Analytics2. So step in the Motorola RAZR™ MAXX – which delivers this and so much more!

With its impossibly thin and lightweight design, this iconic handset boasts features with the wow factor and a battery that can handle even the most demanding lifestyle. The Android™-powered Motorola RAZR MAXX is expected to be available in the UK from mid-May, so you can start talking, texting, typing, watching and more… for even longer.

RAZR MAXX delivers up to 17.61 hours of talk time so you won’t spend your day plugged into the wall. Similarly, its 1GB RAM combined with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and Android operating system will ensure you are always entertained, delivering a lightning-fast user interface and the power to multi-task like never before. You can rock your playlists while checking email, breeze through photos – all day, every day, all at the same time.

Still seriously thin at just 8.99mm, RAZR MAXX is the exact opposite of frail. It’s made strong with KEVLAR® fibre, while Corning® Gorilla® Glass defends the hyper-vibrant 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Advanced display from scratches and scrapes. And every part of the Motorola RAZR MAXX is protected by a splashguard coating, which even extends to the electrical boards inside, ensuring a go anywhere, do everything attitude.

Smart Actions, the remarkably intelligent application exclusive to Motorola Mobility, pushes the limits even further by automating everyday tasks based on triggers like time of day, location, battery levels and more. Never forget to put your phone on silent in meetings, turn up the volume when your boss calls and even maximize your last ounce of power by dimming the display and turning off power hungry services.

Motorola RAZR MAXX also comes preloaded with the Motorola MotoCast™ app3, giving you the power to stream or download content from a home or work computer straight to the device so your docs, pics and music are always available – anytime, anywhere. No uploading to a third party means no wasted time or forgetting to upload that crucial presentation, and everything stays protected, right on your computer.

“Since we re-imagined the iconic RAZR brand, the Motorola RAZR has wowed consumers across the globe by combining the pinnacle of design with mind-blowing power,” said Victoria McManus, UK marketing director, Motorola Mobility. “RAZR MAXX builds on those same principles, delivering an incredible battery life that is perfect for people who want to push their smartphone to the limits and banish the low battery beep to history.”

Motorola smartphones offer some of the industry’s most powerful enterprise features available, and Motorola RAZR MAXX is no exception, including government-grade encryption and productivity tools that rival the capabilities of desktop PCs. Collaborate in real time with GoToMeeting® and create and edit files right on your phone with QuickOffice®.

Availability

Motorola RAZR MAXX will be available for pre-order from Clove, Expansys, Amazon.co.uk and other Motorola authorised resellers, with an expected delivery date of mid-May. For more information on Motorola RAZR MAXX click here.

Anxious to know when your Verizon device is getting its next update? Well look no further, because the software update schedule has been leaked for many devices.

We start off with the HTC Rezound, Motorola RAZR/MAXX and Motorola XOOM, all poised to get Ice Cream Sandwich very soon. Assuming the testing phase goes well, the Rezound OTA should start on May 9th and the RAZR/MAXX on May 23rd. Meanwhile the XOOM 3G/4G update has finished testing and is ready to be pushed out straight from Google, date unknown at least to Verizon.

We’re not sure if Verizon has ICS updates for the other devices, since they’re listed in a separate section they’re most likely just maintenance updates. Also the size of the update files is a bit too small to be Android 4.0. Updates for the Commando, Droid 4, Rhyme and others are already on the way. And for the Bionic, Thunderbolt, Revolution, Galaxy Tab 10.1, and Xperia Play are still in testing.

If the above screenshot is to be believed, according to Best Buy, Verizon will be pushing out the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Motorola RAZR family on April 4th, and for the HTC Rezound on April 6th. Of course, we always take leaks like these with a grain of salt, anything could change or the information could be outdated. Guess we’ll just have to wait till the next week to find out.

We’ve been hearing about the rumored Motorola Droid Fighter for a while now and we’re finally seeing some images of the device. At first glance it looks very much like the RAZR, which it’s pictured beside. The notable differences being the larger screen, most likely 4.6 inches and HD resolution. As well as the lack of capacitive touch keys (replaced with a giant Verizon logo), Motorola opting for on-screen controls instead.

There’s also word that it could have a large 3300mAh battery like the Droid RAZR Maxx. And if the rumors are to be believed, it could be seeing it as soon as mid-April.
