How To: Root the Sprint HTC Hero and Samsung Behold 2

November 8th, 2009 Ben Marvin 3 comments

Remember the excitement when the G1 was first rooted? Now there’s the same for owners of the Sprint Hero and Samsung Behold 2. For the Hero, there’s a thread over at xda-developers with clear instructions on how to Root your Sprint Hero. Not much yet in the way of custom ROMS or other goodies, but you can run applications that require superuser such as wireless tethering.

For Samsung Behold 2 owners, head over to All Droid for your rooting instructions.

I don’t have either of these handsets, so I can test myself, but if anyone successfully roots (or doesn’t), let us know in the comments how it went. And as always with hacking and modifying your phone, do so at your own risk.

[Thanks Ted for the tip on the Behold 2]

T-Mobile announces the Samsung Behold 2 powered by Android

Yesterday, T-Mobile and Samsung announced the fourth Android phone to the T-Mobile lineup, the Android-powered Behold 2, joining the T-Mobile G1 and T-Mobile myTouch, and the upcoming Motorola CLIQ. No longer just a feature-phone, the Behold is all grown up and now features Android, with Samsung’s TouchWiz overlay, not unlike HTC’s Sense or Motorola’s MOTOBLUR. In addition to the standard widgets and homescreen customization of Android, the Behold features an innovative “cube menu” to access multimedia features of music, photos, videos, the Web, YouTube, and Amazon MP3.

Other specs include 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen, AWS 3G, Wifi, Bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS, 5 MP camera, and up 16GB expandable memory via the microSD slot. The FCC filing said a 100mAh battery, the press release didn’t include full specs. And without much more info on the T-Mobile site yet, they don’t seem to care about pushing this handset as much as the Motorola CLIQ. Perhaps they’re going to be targeting the same userbase as the original Behold without trying to overshadow the launch of the CLIQ, with preorders starting in a mere 2 weeks.

No pricing or availability information is solid yet, but the phone should be here just in time for the holiday shopping season.

Looks kinda like the Samsung Galaxy, huh?
