Thanks to this FCC filing, we now know what the Archos 32 looks like and have verification on its specs and features. Touchscreen with soft key controls below the 3.2 inch screen (hence the name 32), as well as GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack and Bluetooth and WiFi. There’s a microphone, but apparently no camera mentioned as we originally thought. The Archose 32 is still available for preorder from Amazon for only $147, a hair below the MSRP of $150.

The Archos 32 is a 3.2 inch screen Generation 8 device from Archos. Running Android 2.1 on an 800Mhz ARM Cortex A8 processor. The only bad part is that we still don’t know exactly what it looks like. But it should look like one of the above devices from the specs leak a while back. According to Amazon, 4.1 x 2.2 x 0.4 inches, which are the exact dimensions of the HTC HD Mini for size comparison. And it has 802.11n Wi-Fi, a built in camera and microphone, bluetooth and composite video output, as well as 720p video playback. 8GB of storage on this particular model, but look for a few different storage options as is common with Archos players.
Really, you’re getting mid to high end range Android phone specs, for quite a price deal at only $147. But of course, it’s missing the phone part. So, anyone gonna take the leap and preorder? Or wait for a bit more information, like pictures and reviews? I have to say, I’m almost tempted to preorder myself, maybe I’ll hold out for a 32GB version.

A quick teaser shot here of the upcoming Archos Phone Tablet. Similar to the Archos Internet Media Tablet running Android, this will be smaller and be more of a smart phone than a feature-packed MP3 player. Featuring a 4.3-inch touchscreen and a 1GHz ARM processor, it’s going to be at the head of the pack of Android phones in computing power. Other details point to it being only 10mm thick, which is Nokia E71 territory, very very thin.
It’s only a matter of time before full specs and pricing/carrier details come out. This is going to be one hot piece of hardware in Europe and hopefully it will help Archos deal a blow to Apple in the MP3 player and smartphone categories.

Here it is, the Archos 5 Internet Tablet. Powered by Android, it features Wi-Fi, a 800×480 screen and up to 500GB of onboard storage for music and videos. Of course it’s running a custom version of Android, more oriented toward a media player than a phone, but from what we can tell, it’s very well executed. Archos products have always had very intuitive interfaces.
The top of the line 500GB model will costing $420, a 160GB model will run you $310, both with the signature Archos hard drives. And there will be two SSD-based models. The 32GB for $370 and a modest 16GB for $294.

The subject of Android was touched on at the Archos event today. Without going into specifics, they more or less told us they’re working furiously on Android devices. And it was also mentioned they would hold another even on or around September 15th to make specific Android announcements.
ArchosFans has some videos (although I don’t understand the French) and more coverage for those interested.
According to ArchosFans.com, Archos will present the next generation of Internet Media Tablets running Android Google OS on the 11th of June in Paris

While Archos is well known for it’s revolutionary multimedia powerhouse MP3 and video devices, the company is apparently looking to merge into the smartphone market. They have just announced plans for the next generation of Archos devices, presumably to be called Gen 6. With the Archos 5 last year (pictured above), we saw a multimedia PMP with HSDPA capability, but it was more of a fully spec’d out MP3/video player with internet capabilities than an full laptop-like internet tablet more along the lines of say, the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. This time around we’re seeing something truly special, promising to bring “voice capabilities [and to] deliver robust, powerful mobile phone tablets addressing both entertainment and communications needs“. And also touting specs such as:
- PC-like Internet experience enhanced by a high-resolution 5″ screen and full-width page viewing
- Adobe Flash(TM) and Flash Video(TM) support, full screen
- Access whenever and wherever to TV, movies, photos, music and games
- Uncompromised TV recording and High Definition (HD) playback, all formats
- Hundreds of hours of video storage, up to 500 GB
- Innovative design: compact 10-mm ultra-thin tablet
- Long battery life, 7 hours’ video playback
- 3.5G 7.2 Mb/s HSUPA
- Laptop-like performance from the first implementation of OMAP3440 processor based on the ARM(R) Cortex(TM) superscalar microprocessor and DSP
Given Archos’ history, they are slowly starting to show a little bit more design concern, but when you pack so many features into one device, you can bet it won’t be the sleekest and slimmest device on the market, but 10mm is something to take notice of. This is sure to be a killer device (or devices) in the smartphone/PMP market.
There is no word on pricing or if they will have partnerships with carriers to subsidize the cost of the phone, but it would be a smart move to be wooing some US carriers this time instead of catering just to Europe. We’ll be patiently waiting for spy shots and more details as they emerge.
