There’s no shortage of apps in the <del>Android Market</del> Google Play Store that allow you to access videos from TED Talks. Today TED Conferences launched their official app for Android devices. It features over 1,200 audio and video presentations for easy viewing and sharing on your Android phone, tablet or Kindle Fire and more content being added all the time. The app also has the ability to save content for offline access, which is great for a subway commute or airplane trip.

TED for Android features:

Up-to-the-minute videos: TEDTalks are published daily, and Android app users can see the latest TEDTalks videos as soon as they’re available online.

Browse + search: Whether they’re online or off, users can browse the entire TED library – by theme, tag, rating or popularity – and search for a talk by speaker name or topic.

Easy sharing: Users who are inspired by a talk can share it easily over Facebook, Twitter or email.

Bookmarks. Users can mark and save talks for viewing later within their “My Talks” tab.

Offline viewing: The app is designed to support a mobile lifestyle, in which users move fluidly between online and offline use. Users can download video and audio directly to the device to watch on the plane or other locations where Internet connectivity may not be possible. The full library is searchable in offline mode.

Curated audio stream. Out for a jog, multi-tasking, or just interested in listening, TED app users can listen to TEDTalks, either on an individual basis or through TED’s curated audio stream.

Download the official TED app in the Google Play Store for devices running Android 2.1 or higher.

After launching apps for other parts of the world, Domino’s Pizza has finally launched their Android app to the US market. Appropriately named Domino’s Pizza USA, the app works pretty much the same as ordering from their website, but from the convenience of your Android device instead.

You can order from almost all of Domino’s nearly 5,000 locations, so your favorite store is almost certainly included. Access the full menu and even search for coupons to create your order, then the app remembers your preferences such as local store, and you never have to log in. Then comes everyone’s favorite part, the app also has the Pizza Tracker functionality so you can know the exact moment your pizza goes into the oven and the moment it’s on its way to you or ready for carry out.

The app is of course free and now available in the Android Market for devices running Android 2.1 or higher.

Google Maps for Android has recently been updated bringing with it some minor changes, but significant nonetheless. Version 6.3 of Maps now promises battery life improvements for Latitude users and location services. So pretty much if you use Maps, your battery life will get a little better. There certainly won’t be anyone complaining about that. There’s also some minor bug fixes in tow, probably to insignificant for Google to detail for us. If you haven’t already updated, the latest version is now available in the Android Market.

Walking and texting is something many people do on their smartphones every day, for better or for worse, and it’s not going to stop any time soon. There’s been a handful of SMS apps, such as Samsung’s RoadSMS, that let you text and still see where you’re going by showing what your phone camera sees within the app. Now there’s a new app out called Transparent Screen that does the same thing, but for any and every app.

It may not be a perfect solution, but the app does work beautifully with only a small bit of lag. As expected, it’s also going to drain your battery a bit faster than if you weren’t using it. But hey, if it saves you from walking into a wall or in front of a car, then it’s worth it.

Transparent Screen is now available in the Android Market for devices running Android 2.2 or higher. There’s a free version supported by ads on the settings screen, as well a pro version that will cost you a mere $1. Be sure to check it out and let us know what you think, or drop us a comment if it doesn’t work on your device.

If you’re a user of Google Docs on your Android device, you’ll be pleased to know there’s a new update out. The latest version 1.0.43 brings some new offline features as well as improved tablet support. You can now view your documents without an internet connection, something useful for those with limited data plans or limited connectivity. The update features auto-syncing on WiFi for offline content as well as other features.

Also in the latest Google Docs version is improved support for tablets running Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich. If there’s anything Android tablets severely lack, it’s dedicated apps that work properly with tablets. Hopefully Google will continue leading the way with tablet-optimized apps and other developers will follow suit.

The latest version of Google Docs is now available in the Android Market and is compatible with devices running Android 2.1 or higher.

If you’ve been on the internet for a while, you’ve probably heard of Eventbrite. It’s a website for people to create and manage events and sell tickets from neighborhood meetups to concerts or large gatherings like the Big Android BBQ.

Eventbrite’s recently launched Android app allows you to browse new events, view all the event you’re attending and even pull up your ticket barcode right from your phone for a paperless experience. There’s also features for sharing event info with friends, mapping directions to the event’s location or contacting the coordinator. It seems the only thing missing is the ability to create a new event, a task probably easier accomplished on the full website.

Although the Nook Tablet has been rootable for a while now, the method was a bit complicated for the average user. Now a new method has been released making it simple enough to root merely by copying some files to the SD card and rebooting the tablet. This method is much like the process for the original Nook Color which has been a favorite of modders and ROM flashers since it’s been out. The new Nook Tablet root method should work for firmwares up to version 1.4.1 and brings all-important Android Market access with it. Now if we could just get some Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for the Nook like the Kindle Fire has been getting a taste of recently. Head over to the XDA Developers thread for all the downloads and instructions.

Sega has finally brought the long awaited sequel to Sonic The Hedgehog to the Android Market. Sonic 4, Episode 1 is now available in the Market for a mere $3.99 featuring 16 levels across 4 acts, 7 special stages, and 2 levels specifically made to use your device’s accelerometer.

The initial download is only 1.2MB, but like the release of Sonic CD before this, you have to download additional game data after installing it. Some users are reporting problems with Android 4.0 compatibility as well as problems downloading the game data. If you’re using Ice Cream Sandwich, you may want to hold off on purchasing Sonic 4 till they get it all sorted out.
