T-Mobile has just introduced new mobile broadband plans for tablets, hotspots or laptop data sticks. The new plans, which are available on May 20th, have no contract to sign and come in 4 different sizes to fit any need starting at just $15:

300MB 1-week pass for $15

1.5GB 1-month pass for $25

3.5GB 1-month pass for $35

5GB 1-month pass for $50

It might seem hard to believe, but yes there are actually people out there that own the Motorola CLIQ 2. Even harder to believe is that they’ve been living with Android 2.1 Eclair since the phone was released in early 2011. Now, more than a year later, Motorola has finally gotten around to releasing an optional update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

This upgrade will not be pushed out over-the-air, instead it’s offered as an option download with the Motorola Software Update tool for Windows computers. This update that seemed like an afterthought where someone at Motorola suddenly remembered the CLIQ 2 existed and was still running really old Android.

And sadly, since it took this long, it seems like this is the end of the line for the CLIQ 2, as it’s highly doubtful it will ever see Ice Cream Sandwich outside of the third party ROM development community.

Do low-end entry-level handsets get you excited? Are you a non-smartphone owner looking to buy your first smartphone and only have an Andrew Jackson in your pocket? Well good, then T-Mobile has a smartphone for you!

Today they announced the T-Mobile Prism 3G, a Huawei-build handset stripped of the manufacturer’s name in favor of carrier branding. It features a 600Mhz processor, 3.5-inch HVGA display, 3.2MP camera, and 3G connectivity. For those keeping score, those specs are only *slightly* better than the T-Mobile MyTouch 3G, a three year old handset. To add to the fun, the Prism 3G is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, you know, the version that’s a year and a half old.

While most likely no readers of this blog will be purchasing the phone, it will be available starting on May 6th in Best Buy and in Walmart stores on May 9th, then finally coming to T-Mobile on May 23rd. The price for a watered down version of the Android brand? A mere $20 after $50 mail in rebate when signing a new two year contract.

If you want our advice, go with the HTC Sensation 4G, which is currently available for free on T-Mobile.com when signing a contract. It might be an older phone, but you’re getting a much better phone and saving yourself 20 bucks.

T-Mobile Introduces Its Latest Budget-Friendly Smartphone: T-Mobile Prism

Built for first-time smartphone customers, the new Android device is expected to be available starting May 6.

BELLEVUE, Wash., — May 2, 2012 — T-Mobile USA, Inc., today announced the upcoming availability of the T-Mobile® Prism™, the latest budget-friendly option for cost-conscious consumers looking for their first smartphone. The T-Mobile Prism will be available to T-Mobile customers through flexible pricing options, including no annual contract paired with a T-Mobile Monthly4G™ plan or paired with a two-year T-Mobile Classic or Value plan.

Powered by Android™ 2.3 Gingerbread and featuring a 3.5-inch HVGA touch screen, the new 3G smartphone enables T-Mobile customers to easily surf the Web, access their favorite social networking sites and choose from thousands of applications to download from Google Play. The T-Mobile Prism also makes it simple to capture and share photos and videos via its 3.2-megapixel camera with digital zoom and video recorder. With the T-Mobile Prism, customers can sync multiple email accounts, including Microsoft Exchange, Google calendar and contacts, T-Mobile contacts, and more.

The T-Mobile Prism is expected to be available at Best Buy starting May 6, at Walmart starting May 9 and available nationwide at T-Mobile retail stores, online via www.T-Mobile.com and at select dealers beginning May 23. The T-Mobile Prism is expected to cost $19.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate card with a two-year service agreement and qualifying Classic voice and data plan or $149.99 via no annual contract.

T-Mobile has recently updated their support page for the HTC Sensation 4G, indicating the Android 4.0 update may be closer than we think.

May 2 News: The Android 4.0 (ICS) update for the HTC Sensation 4G has completed its testing process and we expect it to be available very soon. Please stay tuned for an official communication from T-Mobile regarding how and when you’ll be able to receive the update.

A previous leak pointed towards a June 16th date for Ice Cream Sandwich on both the Sensation and Amaze. Then again, using the term “very soon” is still rather vague when referring to firmware upgrades.

TmoNews has gotten their hands on a T-Mobile roadmap with some juicy dates and some not so juicy dates. The info that everyone’s been waiting for, is when Android 4.0 will hit their device, and according to the document, 3 high end devices are about to get Ice Cream Sandwich soon.

Ice Cream Sandwich updates:

5/14 - Samsung Galaxy S II Ice Cream Sandwich

6/16 - HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Amaze 4G

Of course, these dates are not confirmed. So don’t be surprised if your device doesn’t receive and update exactly on the date listed.

Meanwhile, the not so juicy info is a couple of new product launches. All of which appear to be on the lower end of the spectrum. Some of them might not even be smartphones, but we don’t exactly have all the details.

New Device Launches:

5/9 — Huawei Astro — low end handset on 7/11

7/11 — Huawei Buddy — new myTouch (QWERTY)

7/11 — Huawei Phoenix — new myTouch (Touchscreen only)

7/11 — Samsung Gravity TXT (new color)

8/1 — Samsung Cacao, T159 indicates low end

8/15 — Samsung Apex Q — no word on what this is

There’s been rumors floating around of the Samsung Galaxy Note coming to T-Mobile since a user agent string was spotted matching the specs and sporting the T-Mobile flavored model number SCH-T879. And now the magenta variant of the 5.3 monster phone has been spotted in the wild with T-Mobile branding and apps specific to the carrier.

We don’t expect the device to be much different from the AT&T version, since it’s already been possible to use the unlocked AT&T Galaxy Note with T-Mobile. Although there’s no word on pricing or release dates yet, we’re hoping to hear this announced soon.

Ahead of their launch party tonight, T-Mobile has just announced pricing and availability for the HTC One S. It will be available in T-Mobile stores and online beginning April 25th and priced at $199.99 with a two year contract after $50 mail-in-rebate.

The HTC One S features a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED screen, 1.5GHz, dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 8MP camera with low-light capability that shoots 1080p HD video, Beats Audio, 25GB of Dropbox storage and HSPA+ 42mpbs connectivity. And thanks to T-Mobile releasing it ahead of AT&T’s One X release, it will be HTC’s first phone in the US to ship with Android 4.0 with Sense 4 out of the box.

Full Press Release:

T-Mobile Launches Ultra-Sleek HTC One S April 25

T-Mobile’s Thinnest Smartphone Brings an Amazing Camera and Beats Audio™ Integration to America’s Largest 4G Network™

BELLEVUE, Wash. — April 18, 2012 — Today, T-Mobile USA, Inc. and HTC Corp. announced the highly anticipated HTC One™ S will be available at T-Mobile® stores nationwide on April 25. As HTC’s premier launch partner in the U.S., T-Mobile will be the first to offer the ultra-sleek HTC One S, which is the company’s first device to ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and HTC Sense™ 4.

The latest smartphone from T-Mobile to take advantage of 4G (HSPA+ 42) technology on America’s Largest 4G Network,™ the HTC One S provides T-Mobile customers with an amazing camera and authentic sound technology, plus a diverse selection of apps and services that give customers amazing 4G experiences.

“The HTC One series is a revolutionary device portfolio and we’re proud to be the first carrier to introduce the HTC One S to the U.S. market,” said Andrew Sherrard, senior vice president of marketing, T-Mobile USA. “With a stunningly thin design that doesn’t compromise performance, the HTC One S is a sleek 4G smartphone with beauty and brains that our customers will be proud to show off.”

With the HTC One S, customers will find a fantastic music experience that works seamlessly on T-Mobile’s 4G network. Customers can listen to their music libraries — up to 20,000 songs — straight from the cloud and purchase new music on the go with Google Play. Virtually all audio experiences sound better on the HTC One S thanks to its built-in Beats Audio™technology, which provides a richer and more authentic sound experience whether consumers are watching movies, listening to music or playing games.

Featuring an 8-megapixel back-side illuminated camera and HTC ImageSense,™ which provides a variety of enhancements to the camera’s lens, sensor and software, the HTC One S is always ready to capture pictures in the blink of an eye. Consumers have immediate access to their cameras from their home screens and a super-fast auto focus with continuous shooting to take continuous photos at 4 frames per second simply by holding the shutter button. In addition, the smartphone enables high-quality video recording with a full high-definition (HD) 1080p camcorder and the ability to concurrently capture HD video and still images at the same time. With access to 25 GB of free cloud storage from DropBox, HTC One S customers also can bring their photos, documents and videos virtually anywhere they go and upload new content to the cloud via T-Mobile’s network or Wi-Fi. HTC One S also gives customers a new way to share their content through use of HTC’s wireless Media Link HD accessory.* The small accessory allows easy sharing of any content on the phone with any TV that supports HDMI.

We’re all patiently waiting for tonight’s event with HTC and T-Mobile where they’re expected to announce the One S availability and pricing with much fanfare. But a little sneak peak has made it’s way onto T-Mobile’s website. Not quite all the details we hoped for, but we now know the full retail pricing of the HTC One S will be $599.99 with no contract. What will the two year contract price be? We can only guess $199, but we’ll have to wait till tonight for confirmation. The expected launch date is still lined up for one week from now on April 25th, as spotted on multiple documents.

With T-Mobile and HTC planning an event for next week, we’re guessing that’s when we’ll be finding out exact dates and pricing. But for now all we have is these dummy phone pictures to look at.
