This could be the next Android handset coming to Verizon Wireless customers. Said to be running a 1Ghz SnapDragon processor, Android 2.1 with Sense, 256MB of RAM, a 3.5″ or 3.7″ WVGA screen, also a dual LED flash on the camera. Specs equivalent to the Nexus One, but with CDMA love. There is also what is described as an “optical mouse pointer” near the bottom of the device. Hit the link for a few more pictures and a video.

Leaked image of Sprint 4G HTC device

January 28th, 2010

This is one of the first pictures of the rumored HTC device for Sprint’s 4G network. Codenamed the HTC Supersonic, it features a 4.3-inch touchscreen and 1GHz Snapdragon processor, Sense UI like the HTC Hero, and of course Sprint’s WiMax 4G bands. It’s unclear if this is supposed to be a prototype or a production model, but we can only hope an official announcement is around the corner soon.

Sprint users, you excited to trade in your Hero or Moment for this baby?

How To: Root the Sprint HTC Hero and Samsung Behold 2

November 8th, 2009

Remember the excitement when the G1 was first rooted? Now there’s the same for owners of the Sprint Hero and Samsung Behold 2. For the Hero, there’s a thread over at xda-developers with clear instructions on how to Root your Sprint Hero. Not much yet in the way of custom ROMS or other goodies, but you can run applications that require superuser such as wireless tethering.

For Samsung Behold 2 owners, head over to All Droid for your rooting instructions.

I don’t have either of these handsets, so I can test myself, but if anyone successfully roots (or doesn’t), let us know in the comments how it went. And as always with hacking and modifying your phone, do so at your own risk.

[Thanks Ted for the tip on the Behold 2]

Saddest Sprint HTC Hero unboxing video ever

October 1st, 2009

I had a little chuckle and a little frown at this unboxing video. Unboxing videos are generally crap, but this one is worth a look. It’s a bit long, but skip ahead to about the 1 minute mark for the action. Nobody likes to see a brand new phone destroyed, especially if it’s an Android phone.

HTC Desire skates through FCC and Wifi certifications, bound for Verizon

September 28th, 2009

Today is a good day for Android fans on the Verizon network. First we got word that the Motorola Sholes aka the Motorola Tao got FCC approval. And now we see the HTC Desire (also known as the ADR6200) is FCC approved, and WiFi certified. There is still little known about the HTC Desire bound for Verizon Wireless. We don’t have the roadmaps leaks for HTC that we were so lucky to have last year, and the only other thing acknowledging the handset is the screenshot from an internal Verizon spreadsheet that you see below. And per usual with these FCC filing, the goodies like photos, and user manuals have been held back by request of HTC (and presumably Verizon) till long after the phone is released. We’ll keep you posted as soon as more details, photos and specs come out.

Verizon customers, are you excited for Android yet?

HTC Tattoo coming to Vodafone in October

September 21st, 2009

Vodafone recently added the HTC Tattoo to its website announcing that it’s coming in October. Announced a few weeks ago by HTC, the Tattoo features the much praise HTC Sense interface, a 3.2MP camera, HSDPA, Wifi, GPS. And from what we saw in a video showing off the Tattoo, it will also include an FM radio, something normally found in Nokias and no name Japanese handsets. The Tattoo is also rumored to launch sporting the latest version 1.6 of Android, also known as Donut. This would correspond to Google saying that Donut would start showing up on phones in October.

HTC Hero firmware update 2.73.405.5 live on HTC UK site

September 16th, 2009

HTC has a new ROM upgrade for your Hero. Version 2.73.405.5 is up now at the HTC UK site, for owners of Orange, T-mobile, and other UK Hero users. To upgrade, head over to the HTC support page for full instructions on installing the new firmware.

The update will speed things up a bit for a snappier experience and touch-to-focus for the your 5MP camera. And unlike other software upgrades for Android phones, you will need a Windows PC to install the update, sorry Mac and Linux users.

Video: HTC Tattoo showing off Sense, new keyboard and FM radio

September 11th, 2009

Just a quick video here of the HTC Tattoo showing off some of it’s features. Those familiar with the Hero will recognize most of what’s going on here, but it’s the differences that we’re most interested in. Audio is German I believe, so if you don’t speak it, you can just mute the video and enjoy the Android goodness.
