We are sad to report that the Sidekick 4G on T-Mobile is hitting its end of life soon. The Samsung-built device was the Android reincarnation of the popular line of Sidekick devices made by Danger/Sharp. As you can see in the screenshot above, the discontinuation date is March 6th, although that doesn’t mean you still can’t buy the device. Stores will sell through existing stock but will not be ordering any more.
We don’t have exact numbers on Sidekick 4G sales, but as TmoNews points out, the Sidekick 4G was one of the most consumer electronics devices searched for on Google in all of 2011. And unfortunately with the rather swift release cycle of Android devices, bigger, better and cheaper phones out-classed the Sidekick pretty quick.
We’re really hoping to see a follow up to the Sidekick 4G. Maybe something running Ice Cream Sandwich and with a least a dual-core processor to compete with top-tier phones. The physical keyboard form factor is favored by heavy texters, and T-Mobile could really have another hit with the Sidekick series if marketed right.
But for now, we bid farewell to the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G. April 2011 – March 2012.
