If you’re not familiar with ZipCar, it’s a service that essentially offers short term car rentals by the hour or by the day. The service is popular among urban dwellers that don’t require a car daily as well as many college students. A ZipCar application has been available for iOS for some time, as well as a mobile site. Today ZipCar announced the availability of a native Android application.
With the Android app, members can search for cars, make reservations, then view cars on a map and get directions. Then you can honk the car horn remotely and lock or unlock the vehicle once the ZipCard is scanned in. All from your Android device.
ZipCar is only available in a limited number of cities, so sadly we’re not able to test it out here, but those familiar with the service will welcome the added convenience of the application. For more info about the Android app, check out ZipCar’s FAQ. Or browse the list of ZipCar cities.
ZipCar is now available in the Android Market for devices running Android 2.1 or higher.
