Motorola unveils the CLIQ and MOTOBLUR: First looks

Yesterday Motorola announced their new handset, the CLIQ which is coming to T-Mobile. But more important than the phone itself is the skin that it runs on top of Android, called MOTOBLUR. Akin to other offerings from Palm and HTC, MOTOBLUR brings together your contacts and social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and last.fm into one seamless information center. The jury’s still on how well it works with Android and how it compares to other software.

The handset, the Motorola CLIQ, also know as the DEXT outside the US is very similar to the spy pictures we saw of the handset known as the Morrison. Featuring a 3.1 inch capacitive touch screen and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, they also opted for a directional keypad instead of the trackball on other Android phones. It will be Motorola’s first Android phone and the third Android for T-Mobile, behind the T-Mobile G1 and the myTouch 3G. The CLIQ has a 5MP camera that can record video at 24fps, onboard GPS, and a much welcomed 3.5mm headphone jack. Although it’s being shown off as having a thin profile, it’s 0.64 inches thick, a hair thicker than the G1′s 0.62 inch thickness.

The Motorola CLIQ is already on T-Mobile.com as “Coming Soon” and the rumored pricing will be free on contract, or $399 outright. And it will be available in 2 colors, Winter White or Midnight Titanium.
