Question Of The Day: What Android Apps Would You Like To See?

Question Of The Day: What applications would you like to see in the Android Market?

Sure, there are plenty of useful and fun applications, but with apps coming out like “101 Farts,” you have to wonder, what applications should developers be focusing on? There’s still a large gap between the Android Market and the iPhone App Store in terms of number of applications. Are there any iPhone apps you would like to see Android versions of? One area that Android is seriously lacking is in gaming.

Leave a comment and tell everyone what you would like to see developers working on.

Definitely more games. With the potential of the android software I am surprised there aren’t better games on a par with the iPhone.

Something that will give me access to my Google docs. There may be something but I haven’t seen it yet.

I would like to see a fully functioning dediceted video player from the likes of videolan or real player. One of the ‘big’ players with the reputation to go with it

I know there is one app that let’s you access and edit Google Docs, but it’s still under development and didn’t work very well when I tried it out a few weeks back. That’s one app that I’d like to see Google put out.

I know this isn’t quite answering the question, but I’d love to actually see the Android Market become available to those of us in South Africa. Two Android phones (HTC Dream and Magic) have been released here but we don’t yet have the Android Market. :(

You can browse the Android Market on the web at: http://www.cyrket.com/
And many of these apps are available from the publishers sites or from http://code.google.com

I would throw another vote in for an integrated Google Docs piece, and along that same thread doesn’t Google have an image application? Why doesn’t it sync with the images in my phone so I can easily share them online? This would be a sweet feature! Also along that same thread where is my google reader? There may be an rss reader available in the market but I want my actual google reader.

Maybe I need to do more research. Let me know if I’ve missed something.

    Thanks!

Would like to see the credit card processing app since I am a mobile businessman. That would help out immensely.

There is an app called Merchant (Lite and Pro) that lets you process credit cards. And I’m not sure if the Paypal app lets you do that or not from the handset.

A hardware credit card swiper would be a cool accessory, like the ones they have for Nextel Blackberrys.

I’d like to see an app that streams radio, not just music. I’d like to be able to listen to local sports casts :) .

I guess I didn’t really notice the lack of games… Also, I don’t recall any of my friends with iphones ever saying: Dude, check out this game I have!

StreamFurious is very good, I use it all the time for streaming. And if your local radio stations have a m3u or pls feed, then you can add it to StreamFurious.

Ooh, another good idea. There is that one silly drum app, but something more along the lines of FruityLoops would be awesome.

We already have Google Maps for the G1. So, what is preventing Google from putting out Google Transit for the G1? I use public transportation and use Google Transit from my laptop. Why can’t I have it for my G1 too?

iPhone has things like SPL Graph for sound techs. I do sound and the head guy keeps coming in with all of these apps on his iPhone to help with measuring sound. I have the G1 and I’m left looking like, huh?
