SnapTell is a cool app that lets you take a picture of the cover of a book, cd, or movie and look up information about it. Unlike the popular barcode readers like ShopSavvy and Compare Everywhere, SnapTell works with image recognition software instead of barcodes. SnapTell can read barcodes too, but the cool factor is that you can take a picture, or use a picture from any source. And you don’t have to struggle with trying to get the camera to focus on a tiny barcode.
When you start the application, you can chose to take a picture, use a picture from your photos, or scan a barcode. Taking a picture is quick and painless, and the information is returned in mere seconds, even over EDGE. You then can find out about the product or find out where to purchase it online as well as access to info and reviews from YouTube, Wikipedia, IMDB, and eBay. SnapTell keeps track of what you’ve been scanning, so you can use it for a virtual shopping list.
SnapTell is now available in the Android Market.
