Application Spotlight: G1 Central

If you are one of the lucky few to have a GrandCentral account, this is the must have application. Essentially, it’s a replacement for the phone/contacts/dialer application built into Android, but it’s all routed through your GrandCentral number.

When you start the app, you have to enter your GrandCentral login and password, as well as your cell number. From there you can choose to dial a number with the dial pad, or choose from the contacts on your phone, not your GrandCentral contacts list. Upon initiating a call, the app logs into GrandCentral and functions much like the Click-to-call feature on the website. First it calls your phone, once you answer, it begins to call the desired number.

For such a simple application, it does exactly what you need it to without any hassles. For those that prefer to keep their cell number private from businesses and telemarketer, this app is essential. Let’s hope Google recognizes the benefits of GrandCentral and starts opening to new accounts again and integrates this into the Android OS. At least you can still reserve a number.
